Personalised photo magnets: Christmas gift ideas for the people you love
Share
A personal Christmas gift doesn’t have to start with a shopping list. Sometimes it starts with a photo you already have.
The kids squeezed onto Grandma’s lap. Your partner with the dog. A holiday everyone still talks about.
A set of photo magnets brings a few of those memories together, somewhere they’ll be seen every day.
For grandparents: the everyday photos they love
The family portrait is lovely, but so is the grin with a missing tooth. The muddy face. The siblings laughing at something just outside the picture.
Try choosing a mix of the grandchildren together and on their own. You could use recent favourites or show the same children at different ages.
If you live apart, everyday photos can share the little changes grandparents don’t always get to see in person.
For your partner: a little of your life together
You don’t need to choose only your biggest milestones.
Mix a favourite trip with an ordinary weekend. Add the pet who follows you everywhere, or a selfie from a day you both remember.
The best choice might be a photo that makes no sense to anyone else. You know why you love it. So will they.
For a pet lover: yes, the dog can have a whole set
Some camera rolls have a very clear favourite subject.
Look for the head tilt, the favourite sleeping spot or the expression their pet always seems to pull when a camera appears.
Choose a few different photos rather than several almost-identical ones. A close-up, a playful moment and a familiar pose can make a set that feels unmistakably theirs.
The gift is for Christmas. The photos don’t have to be.
Summer holidays, birthdays and quiet afternoons at home can all belong in the same set.
You could choose photos from one holiday, a mix of the people they love, or little moments from throughout the year.
Choose pictures they’ll enjoy seeing in February as much as December.
A few tips for choosing your photos
Use original digital photos where possible, rather than screenshots. Choose clear images and leave a little room around faces and important details near the edges.
For group photos, check that faces will still be easy to see when the picture is made smaller. A closer crop can help more than simply choosing a larger magnet.
I make photo magnets in 50 mm and 63.5 mm sizes. My 50 mm size is the best seller, while the larger size gives your favourite photos a little more room.
Something they’ll see after the decorations come down
I print and finish every order by hand here in Melbourne. When ordering for Christmas, allow time for both making and delivery.
What I love about photo magnets is how easily they become part of everyday life. They’re there while someone makes their morning coffee or opens the fridge to work out dinner.
A familiar face. A favourite place. A moment they’re glad someone remembered.
